Black Pool (04)

Vel and Avegnum quietly backup to the extent of the shadowy light of the ever burning torch newly acquired from the fallen Halvdan. At approximately 40' from the edge of the black pool Vel fires off one of his eldritch blasts which strikes the black liquidy edge of inkiness. At first no response, then the blackness suddenly swirls and a section of it rises up and surges forward 10' outside of the pool.

Avegnum and Vel both see what looks somewhat like a giant black slug covered in dark slime. It fills the floor of the tunnel and rises up a good three feet with many protruding appendages, like eye-stalks, moving about it, and two large black flaps on it's top, or perhaps back, that flex up and down like clunky, slimy, giant butterfly wings.

  1. "Uh.. frell.. What were you thinking?!" Avegnum roars at the abominations emergence. (5 Initiative, booyah!)
Vel shrugs, momentarily dumbfounded. (10 Initiative)

  2. "Maybe it is as scared of us as we are of it," Vel whispers unconvincingly. Ling up his sight and summoning his energies he attempts to hit the slug thing with a Frightful Blast(Touch): 1d20+10=20, If hit then Will DC 17 Else shaken 1min, Damage:4d6=13

Vel then tries to move back up the hall about 20ft in case the slug has afterburners.

  3. Vel aims and lets loose with a eldritch blast, but instead of a ray beaming from his hand a bubble forms around him and then expands and dissipates in the blink of an eye. The disapearing fiendish energies, instead of harming, cause both men to be fully healed of all wounds and afflictions. A little surprised, the human backs up about 20'.

  4. The giant black slug-like creature sloths forward 20' and lets loose of some of the same cold, cloying miasma of greasy darkness the two have seen before. It surrounds the two men and they both take 12 points of damage as the negative energy saps their life.

  5. "It's not scared of us!" Vel shouts, "And my attack backfired in our favor?!"
"Just great, crazy jungle, crazy naked magical woman, and crazy magic attacks that don't work," Avegnum growls, growing pissed off at the turn of events. He's not really surprised at the sludge slug's appearance, nor the fact that it breathes evil at him, it's all par for the course really, all the way back when Aramel was still around. Moving 5ft to G7 and drawing the fallen general's sword he knows he doesn't have time to activate its magical properties so he settles for trying to pop the clearly befouled gastropod before it can advance any further with a skillful two handed strike!
    Elder Mountain Hammer:1d20+16=18:Hit!, Damage:1d8+8+6d6=29 (Ignores DR/Hardness)

"OH! That's a frelling slug! I should have some salt in my bag somewhere..," Vel trails off.

    1. Did you want to go to G8? G7 isn't in range yet.

  6. Avegnum steps up to the new adversary and swings with Halvdan. Again, like the past encounter, he easily hits the enemy, though the physical damage seems to bother it none, the sword emits a kind of energy that pulls and sucks away at the flapping, ooze-like creature, before the blade cleaves it in two resulting in double the number of adversaries.

    Vel is next.

  7. Vel falls back to his go to Eldritch Chain Blast, hoping that the magical energy will actually manage to work as he intends rather than in a bizarre manner.
    Chain Blast vs. Slug1:1d20+10+1=31:RAGE NO CRIT!, Damage:4d6+1=14, vs.Slug2:1d20+10+1=14:Hit!, Damage:7

    1. Go ahead and give me caster level checks with each of Vel's eldritch blasts.

    2. For the rest of the battle for every eldritch blast also provide a caster level check, a d100, then another caster level check.

  8. Nothing bizarre happens to Vel's eldritch blast, though it does dissipate into harmlessness when it touches the first blood pudding in a way Vel recognizes as the effect of spell resistance.

I believe Vel still has a move action available to him, right?

    1. Lol, can he spend that time starting to, or getting out one of the casks of ale so that Avegnum could use it as an improvised bludgeoning weapon since ooze multiplication does not seem conducive to overall survival.

  9. Two times my post did not take. I'll update again today.

  10. Sorry for the delay. I relized I had never finished the blood pudding monster, and am doing that today.

  11. Blood pudding 1 launches a pseudopod at Avegnum, which slams into him for 13 damage and then wraps around the mongreloid, squeezing him for an additional 13 damage. Though it's surface drips with acid none of the burning liquid effects Avegnum, thanks to the acidic resistance granted by Thelaful's magic. The blood pudding slithers on to and around Avegnum, then reaches out with two clawed tentacle-like appendages, raking at him, and finished with a mouth-like protrusion that snaps at the warrior. In total he takes 21 more points of damage before the enemy finishes with him.

Blood pudding 2 flaps it’s leathery, slime-covered, blackish stubs of wings and jumps as much as flies toward Vel. Landing ten feet away from him, the pudding shoots out a pseudopod that widely misses the arcanist.

    Avegnum is up.

  12. If Avegnum can he'll try and release the magic missile energy from Halvdan's sword into the ooze grappling him and if that proves impossible he'll try to extricate himself from the quivering prison. Grapple check for that I think is: 1d20+15=29

"A little help here!" Avegnum cries around acidic tendrils and walls of jelly.

  13. Avegnum mentally activates the longsword. Instead of a single gleaming dart of force five darts stream out of the sword's blade and penetrate deep into the blood pudding damaging as it would any other enemy.

Vel is next and either pulls out the barrel and gets a move action or can stop rummaging around in his bag and get a full round of actions (though the barrel will still be in the bag).

  14. Vel will complete his cask retrieval and then move back 5ft. "Now what am I supposed to do with this thing, Avegnum!"

  15. Vel lugs the 40 pounds of oak barrel sloshing with highly valuable imperial porter out of his haversack and steps back just before BP1 fully entangles Avegnum in its oozyness and solidly pins him to the semi-flexible, stone floor like a rabid rapist drooling with excitement above his intended victim. Two semi-permanent clawed appendages reach out with grabbing-clawing motions against the mongrelman, but only one wounds him (for 5 damage), before the acidic monstrosity hungrily lurches forward and drags Avegnum 10 feet closer to Vel. BP2 similarly slithers forward 5’ toward Vel before thrusting a drippy pseudopod at him. Though the attack makes contact Vel knows it was lessened by his fiendish resilience, he takes no acid damage since he is immune, and the enemy’s attempt to grapple him is negated by the tingly, nimbleness originating from the boots Thelaful augmented for him. BP2 follows up the attack with two clawed, semi-permanent pseudopods, and a mouth-like pseudopod filled with teeth-like protrusions. From all the attacks Vel only takes 26 damage, and is not grappled due to his fancy footwear.

    Avegnum is next.

  16. Avegnum attempts to break free of the pin... somehow... maybe...

  17. Avegnum spends both his attacks struggling against his enemy, but is unable to wiggle himself free. Stuck facst as he is he feels the creature sucking at him and searching his armor for a way in.

Halfdan's longsword emits a kind of loan moan, and glitters with a dull grey energy that surrounds the blade before discharging into the pudding creature that pins Avegnum. Though it makes no sounds the oozy enemy quivers and shakes at the damage.

    Vel is up.
